PGA & LIV Merge?! plus DTC Clubs to Consider

PGA and LIV Merge?!
If you didn’t believe that money rules the world, your faith is being put to the test this week. Over the last few years the PGA and LIV have been like the Hatfields and McCoys, true mortal enemies. If you live under a rock and need a quick explanation, the LIV tour is a Saudi backed golf tour and put simply, they have all the money. They have had mild success in securing some of the PGA’s top talent such as Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Brooks Koepka. Now, Jay Monahan, the PGA commissioner, might be the most hated man on the internet. To start, big Jay has publicly invoked 9/11 victims and families to the LIV tour, saying that players should be ashamed with their association. He has also taken the moral high ground and called players sellouts for taking the pay day LIV has offered. Fast forward to this weeks most talked about topic, he then goes full 360 and decides to merge his pretentious PGA with the Saudi backed LIV league. Some people are calling him the biggest scumbag in sports history, he is at least a Mount Rushmore hypocrite of all time. What does this mean for the people who stayed loyal to him? Tiger turning down 800 million, Rory turning down 500? For now, we don’t know. I think most people unanimously think this is good for golf, stopping the jabs/tension and bringing the worlds top talent back to one place. When it comes to Jay Monahan, it is going to be hard for him to sleep at night, his reputation and credentials are ruined, but the billion dollars he probably made off this deal will help. This story will unfold throughout the coming weeks and boy oh boy are we on the edge of our seats.

DTC Clubs to Consider
The direct to consumer business model has revolutionized many industries, is golf next? Let me introduce you to a brand named Takomo, a Finland based club manufacturer offering premium clubs for budget prices. The direct to consumer model is simple, by cutting out the middle man, aka retailer, they are able to preserve margin and offer the savings to the consumer. Takomo has a very similar hierarchy to most big brands at the moment, including both distance and players irons. I can appreciate a brand like this not going for any sort of wild marketing/individuality, a lot of time DTC brands try to make a splash and shoot themselves in the foot. Takomo instead went for classy and low key branding, only the model number and stamped logo are featured on each iron. After watching countless reviews of these irons they stand up to the test, every reviewer puts them in line with the big boys. Always do your own research, but if you are looking to retire your current set of clubs why not save a few bucks and get a head turning club.

Canadian Open Picks
Corey Conners being on home soil might give him the edge, at +2200 let’s give it a shot. Wesley Bryan at +40,000 is a fun pick for the well loved YouTuber. Still haven’t gotten one of these right so take it with a grain of salt.
