$40,000 Irons?! + Funeral Home Mini Golf

The $40,000 Honma Beres Irons…………

Handcrafted in Sakata, Yamagata, Japan, Honma is a boutique golf club manufacturing company aimed at the rich and wealthy. Combining artistry, performance, and manufacturing, each individual club is touched by over 100 people and takes about 6 months to create. One of the few companies in the world that actually manufacture their own shafts specifically for their club heads. Their “Beres” line incorporates 24-carat gold and platinum, with unique designs imprinted into the back of each club head. Honma in some cultures are along the same lines as Rolexes, an investment, with certain clubs significantly increasing in value over time, like the example above. These clubs are designed for the targeted consumer, slow to mid swing speeds and forgiving club head shapes, traditionally people who can afford these clubs aren’t scratch golfers. At its essence these clubs are a status symbol, it’s the same reason people buy Ferrari’s and Porsches, they want to be seen using them.
Funeral Home Mini Golf?
I stumbled across this gem the other day, based out of Palatine Illinois, originally designed for staff use, let me introduce Ahlgrim Acres. A 9 hole mini golf course located under a funeral home, yes you heard that right, a funeral home. On their website they assure the facilities will NOT be used at the same time, thank goodness, you wouldn’t want to hear someone screaming “hole in one” while grandma betty is being mourned. The course includes putting through an old shipping box used for rail transportation, a guillotine, and a water hazard. Regardless, if you find yourself in Palatine Illinois with an hour to kill, you will probably still not go here but it’s nice to know about.
